COMPETITIONS & CARNIVALS

Competitions & Carnivals

Surf Life Saving Southern Region conducts Junior Carnivals during the season for age groups Under 8 to Under 14.

The carnivals are held as competition between juniors of different surf clubs, culminating with the Canterbury Champs.

There is also a Southern Ocean Athlete carnival held for U10 to Under 14, as well as a Twilight Series for Under 11 to Under 14.

At all carnivals the Waimairi Club togs, florescent vest and Waimairi Club cap must be worn. Competitors in team events must wear their uniform dress. If receiving an award, competitors must only wear their Club uniform on the dais. Disqualification can result in these rules not being followed.

Participation

We encourage all juniors to represent our Club; we also take pride in our teams and enter as many teams as possible. Carnivals are fun and engender great team spirit.

Registration for the Southern Ocean Athlete usually closes in early January. Juniors wanting to compete should inform the Junior Manager by this time.

If the number of children who can enter or compete in an event is restricted, the coaches and / or selectors will decide who will represent the club. Decisions on team selections are final.

Selection

Any junior who wishes to compete can take part in the local carnivals. All U11’s-U14’s must have their current 200m Safety Award to be eligible to take part in any water events.

Where events are limited, as in the Southern Ocean Athletes, provided a junior has competed in two prior carnivals the Junior Manager and Age Manager shall decide the entries in each event with the intent that as many members as possible compete.
